Friendsgiving Ideas

Friendsgiving is no different from a thanksgiving party or dinner as we all know it. The obvious difference is in the people we spend it with. Whereas Thanksgiving is spent with relatives, sometimes ones that some of us dread or loathe spending time with, Friendsgiving is spent with our second ‘families’, people we have grown to love over time, in our careers, school days, college, or just our neighborhood. These are people, we are comfortable calling brothers and sisters but are not related to us. People we share our ugly past with, our sweet memories with, and even our ugly sweaters and dirty linens literally. So basically Friendsgiving combines the very best of what you get in thanksgiving, but with a more relaxed group of attendees with relaxed rules away from the prying eyes of nosy cousins, aunties, and other relatives, not forgetting the overbearing scrutiny of a dad to his daughter’s girlfriend. Themes Last summer my friends and I had quite an interesting Friendsgiving party th

Why Baba Ngina and Baba Kemei will never see eye to eye

A story is told of three brothers, Baba Ngina, Baba Otis, and Baba Kemei. Baba Ngina is the local senior chief and a former village representative of the hillside region of the village. Baba Otis is the former local trouble maker and aspiring chief, contested for the sit of senior chief four times and lost, he is the village elder of the lake region, and baba Kemei the youngest of the brothers is the village land grabber and otero in chief, the wheeler-dealer in chief and a very good strategist, very ambitious of the three brothers and covets the senior chief's position. He is the village elder representative of the slopes of the village and the deputy Senior Chief. Baba Ngina and Baba Kemei had successfully ganged up against their oldest brother, Baba Otis in the last two elections. Baba Ngina promised, his youngest brother the throne, (yangu kumi, yako kumi) but events leading to the next selection (pun intended) of the next senior chief by the wazee wa mtaa in the Barraza have left Baba Kemei stunned. It's rumored that Baba Ngina has grown some preference towards Baba Otis, owing to some secret events that took place and only known to them, but murmurs and rumors are beginning to come in the open. This has left his kinsmen from the hillside agape with awe, And confusion as to what happened to yangu kumi, yako kumi promise. But what really happened? I also don't know but I overheard some whispers in the village market and saw some snippets of some 'fake' news stories, in the sosho media that am sure u have also heard and seen... and am going to share some anyway.

Rumors are rife that Baba Kemei, ambitious as he is, had planned a takeover, by any means possible. First, he organized a parliamentary group meeting in Naivasha and all the MPs leaning to his side of politics were in attendance. In this meeting, plans were discussed and laid to impeach the Senior chief, and since he is the Deputy senior Chief, as the constitution stipulates he would automatically take over the seat. The constitution stipulates that were the Senior chief to be incapacitated in any way and could not discharge his/her duties in any way, were he to die in office and at the time of the incapacitation or death he had served half or more of his/her term, then no election is necessary and his/her deputy takes over to finish the rest of the term. It is with this in mind that the crafty Baba Kemei set out a plan for a takeover. When Baba Ngina got wind of this plan, he roped in Baba Otis and together agreed to defeat the motion when it comes to the village parliament. This got Baba Kemei flatfooted since he did not expect that his other two brothers would ever work together, and so he had to eat humble pie and shelve his impeachment plans since he could not muster up the numbers to push the censure motion through. One needs a two-thirds majority to pull such a motion through.
It is rumored that after this failed attempt for a parliamentary takeover is when a plan was mooted to assassinate the Senior Chief. In this plan, if successful, Baba Kemei would have killed two birds with one stone literally. The attempt was meant to happen In Kisumu as Baba Ngina visited his older brother Baba Otis for a planned project inspection. It was Baba Ngina's first-ever state visit to any part of the village since COVID 19 happened. The trip was successful and when it was time for the Chief to board his state donkey and ride back to his Official manyatta, he and Baba Otis took a walk just the two of them away from his ride and were seen conferring to each other intensely. For some reason, the trip was canceled, and the Chiefs security was seen running helter-skelter in and around his ride like they were searching for something. Whatever the two brothers discovered has never been released to the public and details of the rumored planned assassination and the responsible persons are not known but if these rumors are true then we only need to ask ourselves one question, who will benefit from such plans? Who will benefit from the sudden death of the Chief? and if these plans had been successful and remember it was to happen in Kisumu who would have been the automatic person to be blamed? I know you know the answers to these questions. He would have killed two birds with one stone.

Now, if you were the Chief, and these two pieces of information came to your attention and that your friend and youngest brother, the one you had told yangu kumi na yako kumi, was responsible, would you still be thinking of yako kumi? I would only think of yangu kumi and do all that's in my power to stop yako kumi, if it were me in the chief's position. It is with this in mind that the Chief set out systematically to stop by any means necessary the ascension to power of his younger brother Baba Kemei. And those making all this noise that the two should be implored to rekindle their love, calling even on pastors to pray for them and even telling the Chief to tell us why they fell out will never see their wishes granted. Let me ask you, will you ever be friends again with someone who you know planned to kill you? And who would still kill you if he had the opportunity? The chief can not tell you this because it's a matter of national security, EYES, AND EARS ONLY if you know what that means. And due to the security of tenure of the office of the Deputy chief, guaranteed by the constitution the Chief is stuck with his murderous deputy till the end of their term, or he can constitute a tribunal for his removal but that would be too polarising to the country, won't it? So guys you will never be told why these two are no longer together and they will never be bosom friends again and Baba Kemei will never be allowed to be The senior Chief, at least for the foreseeable future.Earthquake or not. I know this is too controversial but someone had to say it and I just did.
